The constant rain of April is giving way to the first wave of Crab Grass! This means it’s about time to start fertilizing your lawn! If you want greener grass in your lawn, a nitrogen based fertilizer is your first step. Total Lawn Care uses Nitrogen fertilizer because of it’s life-giving properties, as Nitrogen is a vital element in turf’s growth process. Too much Nitrogen fertilizer, however, can seep through groundwater and into Michigan’s waterways! This is why we recommend having a MDA Certified Spray Technician apply ANY chemicals or fertilizer to your lawn. Total Lawn Care Inc. is a Healthy Lawn Care Provider for Watershed Protection, and we care about our environment!
If you would like to meet with one of Turfgrass specialists to create a fertilizer plan that fits your lawn, call us at 248-588-1694 email@example.com, or Click Here to use our Online Request to schedule an appointment for a free estimate!

Landscape is to a house what a picture frame is to a good painting. It is perfect for bringing out the best features of your property while hiding the rough edges. A house that doesn’t have good landscape design can look naked and as if it doesn’t belong. Another great thing about a designed landscape is the increased curb appeal – the International Society of Arboriculture has said that a landscaped house can be worth up to eighteen percent higher than its non landscaped neighbour.
The increased liveability of a house that has a landscape design is amazing – creating an outdoor living space can give you the extra room you and your family need. Not only does it look good but landscaping can provide a great deal of personal satisfaction, its when all the elements come together in a visually appealing way that you know for sure that you have achieved successful landscape design.

Shrub trimming should be done twice per season on average after the first round of growth in June/July and late in the season when the shrub is done growing for the season usually around September or October.
Shrub trimming has a number of positive effects for the shrubs 1) by removing dead leaves and branches you make room for new growth. 2) You are able to maintain the desired height and width, or shape if you so desire, by staying on a regular maintenance schedule with your bushes. This also helps to keep shrubs/trees from growing into the side or roof of your home/garage before it’s too late. With the recent storms we have experienced many homes were damaged unnecessarily by dead limbs.
Keeping your bushes trimmed can help on both sides of the fence when comes to security, it can be used to create a nice privacy barrier for your backyard with a nice arborvitae hedge. Pruning/trimming can also be used to your advantage to keep views from your windows unobstructed and give you clear line of sight to all areas of your property.
Trimming dead sections of bushes

Total Lawn Care Inc. has the best crew leaders on staff to prune your shrubs to help prevent disease or insects from entering the dead part of the bush and spreading to the entire bush, costing you alot more money to replace the whole thing.
Give us a call 248-588-1694 or email us, many times our crew can perform a few tasks during one visit such as weeding your garden beds, cutting in a new natural bed edge, or even cleaning the gutters. All of which will add to the beautification of your property, while keeping the costs down from multiple visits from multiple companies.

Mulch is one of the best tools a landscape designer has in his or her toolbox. Mulch can take a bland, or stale landscape, and give it a fresh new look. Although mulch is most often used in beds, it is also a great material to go around tree’s within a turf panel. By mulching just the right amount (Not so much that it puts pressure on the tree trunk!), you can create a professional edge, and a nice point of contrast within your yard.
Mulch also provides a great substitute for grass in areas that are too small, or otherwise unaccessible, such as around walkways. By surrounding your walkway with mulch you can create a low maintenance, yet very stylish landscape!
Not sure how much mulch, compost, or topsoil you need? No problem! Call us at 248-588-1694

We have had a rather large presence of Scale and Sooty Mold affecting trees within the Oakland County area this spring. Stated simply, Scales are small insects that latch on to a tree limb, damaging the tree’s health and vigor. Once your tree has been affected with Scale, the best option is to apply a Horticulture Oil to the affected region. A Horticulture Oil is a product used to remove the infestation by suffocating the insect, and also by penetrating it’s outer protective layer to damage the cells themselves. Where there is Scale, there is generally a presence of Sooty Mold. Sooty Mold is a fungus that feeds off of Honeydew secreted by the Scale. While Horticulture Oil is relatively harmless to most birds, animals, and humans, we still recommend a trained professional apply the application as incorrect usage can harm, and possibly kill the tree. If you think you may have Scale or Sooty Mold, please contact us to get a free estimate on a Horticulture application.
