We have had a rather large presence of Scale and Sooty Mold affecting trees within the Oakland County area this spring. Stated simply, Scales are small insects that latch on to a tree limb, damaging the tree’s health and vigor. Once your tree has been affected with Scale, the best option is to apply a Horticulture Oil to the affected region. A Horticulture Oil is a product used to remove the infestation by suffocating the insect, and also by penetrating it’s outer protective layer to damage the cells themselves. Where there is Scale, there is generally a presence of Sooty Mold. Sooty Mold is a fungus that feeds off of Honeydew secreted by the Scale. While Horticulture Oil is relatively harmless to most birds, animals, and humans, we still recommend a trained professional apply the application as incorrect usage can harm, and possibly kill the tree. If you think you may have Scale or Sooty Mold, please contact us to get a free estimate on a Horticulture application. With the cold weather approaching, it’s time to think about preparing your Sprinkler System for winter. At Total Lawn Care we offer complete sprinkler system maintenance and winterization services. From a broken sprinkler ran over by a vehicle to a break in your sprinkler line, we can fix it!
It is important to Winterize your Sprinkler System to avoid costly damages done by water expansion during the cold months. When systems are not properly drained, the most common damage is a split copper or ball valve on the back flow preventer. This repair is costly due to the time it takes to replace the copper parts and re-attach them. Poly Pipe that is not winterized will become brittle from the cold and when the water expands it breaks easily. Sprinkler heads with water left in them will also break when the water witin them freezes and expands inside.
At Total Lawn Care we treat every system with the time necessary to perform a thorough winterization. After the initial hook up with our air compressor, we blow out every zone twice untill only a fine mist of water is evident. Upon the second run through of the system, we will catch any trapped water left in the system. Upon completing the removal of 99% of the water, we will double check the water shut off valve to make sure there is no leakage of the shut off valve.

Thinking about planting Annual and Perennial flowers this year? Middle to late Spring is the most opportune time to plant perennials and annuals in your garden. By planting them in mid to late Spring, you ensure that any late night frosts do not effect root growth, or plant health. You also ensure that the heat waves of summer do not effect the plant early in it’s growing cycle. Summer planting can also be very successful if proper watering is observed during the planting process.
Watering is crucial to newly planted annuals and perennials. Water the plants immediately, right after planting. Water a minimum of once a week for the first two weeks to keep plant roots moist and improve root vigor.
Perennial and Annual maintenance is fairly easy. Be sure to remove dead flowers as soon as possible to encourage new growth during spring and summer, prune off any dead tops in late winter, and apply insecticide as needed to control any pests as soon as noticed to help avoid spreading them to other plants.
If you would like to have Perennials or Annuals installed in your garden, or would like to meet with one of our landscaping professionals to plan a landscaping design for your own yard, Call us at 248-588-1694 firstname.lastname@example.org, or Click Here to use our Online Request to schedule an appointment for a free!

When hiring a snow company to handle your snow season control issues, dependability should be your upmost concern. While price is always an issue, the quality of the service provider should be paramount.
At Total Lawn Care Inc., we pride ourselves on our snow service abilities. Our preparation begins in August and continues until the last snow flake falls. We have extra trucks, plows, and equipment so that a breakdown never interrupts your snow plowing needs. We pre-purchase our salt in advance to assure our inventory and control cost of salt. When the salt shortage occurred two years ago, we didn’t raise our salt prices for our customers.
Our Policies at Total Lawn Care are to start snow operations depending on each and every storm. Always with our customer’s requirements in mind regarding the specifics of their site. Upon completion of the snow plowing and sidewalk clearing, we can apply salt, calcium chloride, or potassium chloride to the parking lot and sidewalks.
We always inspect our work within 48 hours of the completion of the storm so you don’t have to worry about following up, because we do that for you. Our team is trained in snow flowing and snow clearing techniques. Any additional needs or specifications are listed on the snow route’s paperwork so we can cater our service to any circumstance you require. Also, before the season even starts, we send the crew leaders to each and every snow site to familiarize themselves with the potential obstacles, and snow plow planning. All of our policies are created to ensure a successful snow clearing season for you and your needs.
